This repair project describes how to repair a reel turntable pad. The machine described here is an Ampex AVR-2, but the overall procedure is much the same for any other Quad VTR. It may seem a trivial repair but it really is not. There are no suppliers of new replacements. Parts must be made. 
  In making a new turntable pad, the thickness needs to be same as the original to maintain the correct tape-to-reel and tape-to-guide alignment. Otherwise, unnecessary tape edge stress or damage could result.
